The Feather Duster Worm is a tube-dwelling worm that lives in rockpools and shallow waters. It builds a hard tube to live in, often hidden in cracks or on rocks, and sticks out a beautiful fan of feathery tentacles that look like a tiny underwater flower. These "feathers" are used to catch tiny bits of food from the water, like plankton. If something gets too close, the worm quickly pulls its feathery crown back into its tube for safety. Feather duster worms are harmless and helpful—they filter the water and keep it clean by eating floating particles. They’re also a sign of good water quality and a healthy ecosystem.
